The US-India Business Council (USIBC) recently spearheaded a high-profile business delegation to the second edition of India Energy Week 2024 in Goa, expressing admiration for India’s pivotal role in driving the global energy transition.
Led by Ambassador Atul Keshap, the USIBC delegation engaged in discussions with key Indian officials, including Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advisor Tarun Kapoor, and Keisuke Sadamori, Director of Energy Markets and Security at the International Energy Agency.
During the event’s opening ceremony, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s projected doubling of energy demand by 2045 and emphasized the increased significance of natural gas, aiming for its share to rise from 6 to 15 percent in India’s energy mix.
The USIBC praised Minister Puri’s leadership in advocating for India’s energy transformation, underscoring India’s global influence in advancing the global energy transition agenda. Puri also co-chairs the US-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership with US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.
Additionally, discussions during the event explored potential collaboration areas in oil and gas, biofuels through the Global Alliance on Biofuels, and critical technologies such as hydrogen, energy storage, nuclear power, and Carbon Capture, Usage, and Storage (CCUS).
On the sidelines, USIBC and GE Vernova facilitated discussions with Kapoor and Sadamori on the global energy transition and security landscape.
USIBC President Atul Keshap commended the Indian government and the Petroleum and Natural Gas ministry for the successful India Energy Week, emphasizing its role in fostering international partnerships, innovation, and ensuring a sustainable energy future.
Shilpa Gupta, Chief Technology Officer at GE Vernova, stressed the importance of India’s adoption of innovation-driven technological advancements to establish a sustainable energy mix, highlighting the potential of upcoming technologies such as green hydrogen, energy storage solutions, and hybrid power plants.
USIBC reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering US-India energy partnerships and fostering innovation in critical technologies to facilitate a secure energy future and smooth energy transition.
