Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC) has announced the appointment of Fariyha Subhani as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective from April 15, 2024. Subhani takes over the role from Monisha Abraham, who had been appointed to the position in December 2021. Prior to joining CTC, Fariyha served as the Managing Director for Upfield (Private) Limited, South & Central Asia, a prominent private equity food company.
With a career spanning 28 years at Unilever PLC, Fariyha Subhani brings extensive experience in senior leadership roles across diverse FMCG categories and geographies. Her international assignment in Thailand in 2002 saw her leading Global and Regional brands across Homecare for over three years. Upon returning to Unilever Pakistan in 2006, she took charge of Unilever Pakistan Foods Ltd (UPFL) and eventually became the CEO of UPFL board in 2009, overseeing the ice cream and tea categories as well.
During her tenure as Managing Director for South and Central Asia at Upfield (Private) Limited, Fariyha Subhani played a pivotal role in establishing a new business across Pakistan and Sri Lanka. She focused on building a strong team, implementing sustainable business practices, and enhancing operational efficiency, leading to profitable growth over a five-year period. Additionally, she championed Upfield’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda across the region.
Subhani holds an MSC in International Relations from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, and an MBA from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. Her appointment as the Managing Director and CEO of CTC marks a significant milestone for the company as it looks forward to leveraging her expertise and leadership to drive growth and innovation in the tobacco industry.
