Sri Lankan students from Burhani Serendib School in Colombo made a remarkable impact at the International Creativity and Innovation Awards 2024 in Thailand. Competing with 25 countries and over 1000 students from 441 teams across four continents, the Sri Lankan team achieved significant recognition. They secured the Titanium award, the second-highest honor, for their outstanding performance in the field of robotics during the finals held recently. This marked Sri Lanka’s debut in such a prestigious global event, showcasing their prowess in robotics on an international platform.
The Burhani Serendib School students also stood out by winning the ‘Most Interesting Solution’ award, earning full scholarships for its students from Paragon International University in Cambodia. Additionally, six off-site teams from the school clinched bronze and silver awards, highlighting the depth of talent and innovation fostered by the institution.
The students, hailing from the Dawoodi Bohra Community, received accolades from event organizers for their exceptional presentation and unique approach to robotics. Their pride in representing Sri Lanka was evident as they prominently displayed the national flag in the background of all their presentations.
The Sri Lankan team’s success was celebrated by the school’s leadership, including Principal Dr. Shabbir Husain and Head of IT, Murtaza Hamid. The six students who participated in the competition—Husain Zohair, Huzaifa Dawood, Hatim Zohair, Mohammed Moiz, Mufaddal Shiraz, and Hatim Abdulhussain—demonstrated not just technical skill but also creativity and innovation, showcasing the bright future of Sri Lanka’s robotics talent on the global stage.
