Resumption of Indo-SL Passenger Ferry Service Expected by Mid-May

The passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam, India, and Kankesanthurai (KKS) in Sri Lanka, which resumed briefly in October last year after nearly four decades but was halted shortly after, is poised to restart on May 13. The service, which will be managed by a new operator, will see online ticket sales commencing from May 6.

Originally inaugurated on October 14, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ferry service faced a temporary suspension due to the monsoon just a week after its launch. Now, after a hiatus of six months, the service is gearing up to resume operations. The renewed service will be overseen by Chennai-based travel operator IndSri Ferry Services Pvt. Ltd., operating the ship ‘Sivagangai.’

Managing Director of IndSri Ferry Services, S. Niranjan Nanthagopan, announced that ticket sales for voyages between May 13 and November 15 will be available starting May 6 through their website www.sailindsri.com. The fare for a one-way trip from Nagapattinam Port to KKS is set at $50 plus taxes, with the same pricing for the return journey.

Passengers are permitted to carry up to 60 kilograms of baggage without additional charges. Additionally, they have the flexibility to change their travel date up to 72 hours before departure and are eligible for a full refund if they cancel within this specified period.
