In a letter responding to villagers near the Badaling Great Wall, President Xi commended their efforts in safeguarding the iconic structure and promoting its cultural significance.
Residents of Shixia Village in Yanqing District had written to President Xi, detailing their conservation work and the changes occurring in their community. President Xi expressed satisfaction with their dedication to preserving the Great Wall and upholding its cultural legacy, noting its status as a symbol of Chinese civilization.
Highlighting the collective responsibility to protect and transmit this historical and cultural treasure, President Xi encouraged continued efforts from the villagers. He urged them to treat the Great Wall with the same care as their own homes, while also promoting its culture and sharing its stories.
President Xi’s vision extends beyond preservation to the promotion of a strong socialist culture and the advancement of Chinese modernization. Under his leadership, initiatives to tap into the cultural value of the Great Wall and establish it as a national cultural park have gained significant momentum since 2012.
