Sri Lanka Tourism Sees Early June Boost, But Target Uncertain

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry shows positive signs in early June:

  • Over 43,000 Tourists: More than 43,000 visitors arrived in the first 13 days of June.
  • YTD Arrivals: This pushes the year-to-date total to over 940,000.
  • Top Source Markets: India, UK, and China are the leading tourist origins.

Challenges Remain:

  • Meeting Targets: Industry analysts doubt reaching the forecasted 148,695 arrivals for June based on current trends.
  • Monthly Shortfall: Sri Lanka hasn’t surpassed 150,000 monthly arrivals or met monthly targets since March.

Overall 2024 Target:

  • Tourist Arrivals: 2.3 million visitors
  • Revenue: Over $4 billion

Additional Notes:

  • India continues to be the biggest source market, followed by Russia, the UK, Germany, and China.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has shown some positive signs in early June. However, it remains to be seen if they can consistently meet their monthly targets and achieve their overall goals for 2024.
