Sri Lanka Rupee Weakens, Stocks Rise; Bond Yields Dip

Sri Lanka’s rupee started weaker against the US dollar, opening at 305.40/60 on Thursday, with bond yields experiencing a decline and stocks initiating 0.17% higher, according to dealers.

On Wednesday, the rupee closed at 305.35/55 against the greenback.

In the equity market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index began 21.13 points higher at 12,282, while the S&P SL20, comprising more liquid stocks, opened up 0.21% or 7.74 points at 3,636.

Market turnover amounted to 82 million rupees.

Meanwhile, in the secondary market, bond yields saw increases, dealers reported.

Specifically, a bond maturing on 01.08.2026 was quoted at 10.60/11.00%, down from 10.70/11.00% previously.

Another bond maturing on 15.03.2028 was quoted at 11.50/60%, compared to 11.25/80% earlier.

Lastly, a bond maturing on 15.09.2029 was quoted at 12.10/20%, down from 12.10/25%.
