Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Sports, led by Minister Harin Fernando, has launched a historic insurance scheme for schoolboy rugby players under 16 and under 19. The initiative, facilitated in collaboration with Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, aims to provide financial protection to young rugby athletes.
The official ceremony, held at Havelock Sports Club, included the signing between the Sports Minister and Director General (DG) of Sports Development, Professor Shemal Fernando. Additionally, LKR 5 million was allocated to enhance referee standards, and the Henry Pedris Stadium was handed over to Isipathana College. H.I.C. de Zoysa from St. Joseph’s College, injured during the previous season, was also awarded LKR 1 million at the event.
