Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens; Stocks and Bonds Stable

Sri Lanka’s rupee began Tuesday’s trading session on a stronger note, opening at 303.90/304.10 against the US dollar, according to dealers. This is an improvement from Monday’s close of 304.00/20.

In the bond market, yields remained generally stable. A bond maturing on December 15, 2026, was quoted at 10.45/50 percent, up from 10.40/50 percent. A bond maturing on December 15, 2027, was quoted at 11.55/65 percent, slightly down from 11.60/70 percent. Bonds maturing on July 1, 2028, were quoted at 11.78/83 percent, while those maturing on September 15, 2029, held steady at 12.00/10 percent.

In equities, Colombo’s All Share Price Index opened 12.07 points higher at 11,551, and the S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks increased by 0.350 percent, or 11.68 points, reaching 3,368. Market turnover was recorded at 12 million rupees.
