Following Laos and Thailand, Algeria has also granted visa-free travel to Sri Lankans, among other countries. This move is part of Algeria’s broader initiative to simplify travel procedures and strengthen international connections.
In 2021, Algeria’s tourism sector significantly boosted the economy, contributing approximately USD 7.2 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a 33% increase from the previous year. Domestic tourism also played a vital role, with about 3.7 million local tourists staying in hotels annually before 2020.
The new visa-free travel policy aims to further enhance Algeria’s appeal as a tourist destination by leveraging its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and improved infrastructure. The policy is expected to drive higher international tourist arrivals and strengthen global connectivity.
In addition to the visa-free policy, Algeria welcomed 3.3 million foreign tourists in 2021, including 1.2 million Algerians from the diaspora visiting their families. This policy reflects Algeria’s commitment to boosting its tourism industry and improving its global engagement.
