HNB PLC has partnered with the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL) to introduce the Diploma in Microfinance programme, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of HNB’s microfinance staff. The programme’s inauguration took place at HNB Towers, with key figures such as IBSL Director General C.P.A. Karunatilake, HNB Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Wijemanne, and other senior executives from HNB and IBSL in attendance.
The Diploma in Microfinance is designed to provide more than 130 HNB microfinance officers nationwide with advanced training in areas such as financial inclusion, risk management, customer relationship management, and the application of technology in microfinance. By offering this comprehensive programme, HNB seeks to improve service delivery, empower underserved communities, and drive sustainable growth, while also fostering career advancement opportunities for its staff.
HNB COO Sanjay Wijemanne expressed confidence that the programme would contribute significantly to the professional development of microfinance officers, helping them transition into roles within SME, Enterprise, and Corporate Banking. IBSL Director General C.P.A. Karunatilake also emphasized the importance of the partnership in advancing financial inclusion and economic empowerment across Sri Lanka.
