China Provides 11.82 Million Meters of Fabric for 2025 Sri Lankan School Uniforms

The People’s Republic of China has pledged an impressive 11.82 million meters of fabric for Sri Lankan school uniforms, benefiting students across the nation for the 2025 school year. The Cabinet of Ministers approved this generous grant, valued at over Rs. 5.2 billion, during their meeting on Monday.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath, speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, confirmed that the Sri Lanka Textile and Garment Institute (SLITA) had rigorously tested the fabric samples provided by China and verified their suitability for school uniforms.

The Education Ministry announced that uniform distribution will occur in two phases: the first batch will be delivered by the end of this month, and the second batch will follow in the subsequent month. The fabric will be pre-cut to specified sizes for seamless distribution to students in both regular and Piriven (monastic) educational institutions.
