Sri Lanka Rupee Strengthens to 290.60 Against Dollar; Bonds and Equities Show Mixed Trends

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened slightly stronger on Tuesday, trading at 290.60/65 to the US dollar, compared to Monday’s close of 290.65/70, according to market dealers.

In the bond market, yields were mostly steady with slight movements observed:

  • 15.12.2026 maturity: Quoted at 9.40/50 percent, up from 9.35/45 percent.
  • 15.12.2027 maturity: Quoted at 10.25/35 percent.
  • 15.03.2028 maturity: Quoted at 10.48/50 percent.
  • 15.09.2029 maturity: Remained stable at 10.85/90 percent.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Stock Exchange recorded modest gains. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 0.19 percent or 24.63 points, closing at 13,253. The more liquid S&P SL20 index increased by 0.30 percent or 11.62 points, ending at 3,921.

Market turnover for the day stood at 619 million rupees, reflecting continued investor activity despite broader economic challenges.
