Digitalization Set to Transform Sri Lanka’s Agricultural Sector, Says CIC Agri Cluster MD

Waruna Madawanarachchi, Managing Director of CIC Agri Cluster, recently emphasized that digitalization will pave the way for a more successful and technologically advanced agricultural community in Sri Lanka. Speaking at the launch of the CIC Digital Agri Hub Mobile Application at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Madawanarachchi highlighted that smart agriculture initiatives would help attract the younger generation, who are currently moving away from the industry, while also addressing the challenge of high labor costs that impact the agricultural sector.

The much-anticipated CIC Digital Agri Hub mobile application aims to enhance productivity and efficiency within Sri Lanka’s agricultural economy. Designed to empower farmers, the app offers access to up-to-date agricultural information, modern technological insights, expert advice, agro-climatic data, crop calendars, fertilizer recommendations, cultivation tips, and details of seed and planting materials, along with locations of CIC Sales outlets.

The platform seeks to support farmers in adopting modern agricultural practices, ultimately leading to increased productivity and the overall growth of the sector. Madawanarachchi expressed confidence that this innovative solution would contribute significantly to the digital transformation of Sri Lanka’s agricultural landscape.

Additionally, the app will introduce a marketing component in the future, allowing producers to connect directly with end sellers, bypassing middlemen and further streamlining the agricultural supply chain.

The launch event was attended by experts from the agricultural sector, who praised the initiative and expressed optimism that the CIC Digital Agri Hub mobile application would be instrumental in shaping the future of agriculture in Sri Lanka.
