Union Bank has announced the appointment of Anil Keshary Shah as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors, bringing more than three decades of banking, finance, and leadership experience from Nepal and the wider South Asian region.

The appointment further strengthens Union Bank’s Board of Directors with an experienced banking professional who has held senior leadership positions across some of Nepal’s leading financial institutions and has played an active role in leadership development and corporate governance initiatives.
Anil Keshary Shah is widely recognised for his extensive experience in banking, strategic leadership, business management, and financial services. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has contributed to the growth and transformation of several financial institutions while building expertise across retail banking, operations, and executive management.
Among his most notable leadership roles, Shah served as Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank Limited, one of Nepal’s leading commercial banks. He also held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Mega Bank Nepal Limited, where he was responsible for driving business growth and strategic transformation.
Prior to becoming a chief executive, Shah held key executive positions at Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited, serving as Head of Consumer Banking and later as Chief Operating Officer. These roles provided him with extensive experience in retail banking operations, customer strategy, operational excellence, and organisational leadership.
Beyond the banking industry, Shah has remained actively involved in leadership development and social impact initiatives. He currently serves as Chairperson of Lead Nepal Inc., an organisation dedicated to developing future leaders and promoting inclusive and sustainable growth across Nepal.
In addition to this role, he continues to serve as a Non-Executive Director of Nabil Bank Limited while providing strategic guidance as an advisor and mentor to several educational, social, and sustainability-focused organisations. His engagements include institutions such as Teach for Nepal and WWF Nepal, reflecting his commitment to education, leadership, and environmental sustainability.
Shah also possesses a strong academic background in business and finance. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business Finance from George Washington University in the United States before completing a Master of Business Administration at the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi in India.
Further strengthening his leadership credentials, he completed Executive Education in Leadership for the 21st Century at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, equipping him with advanced knowledge in public leadership, governance, and organisational management.
The appointment comes as Union Bank continues to strengthen its governance framework and leadership capabilities in an increasingly competitive banking environment. Experienced board members with regional expertise play an important role in providing strategic oversight, supporting sustainable growth, and guiding institutions through evolving market conditions.
With extensive executive experience across commercial banking, leadership development, and corporate governance, Shah is expected to contribute valuable regional insights to Union Bank’s Board while supporting the bank’s long-term strategic objectives.
His appointment also reflects the growing importance of cross-border leadership expertise within South Asia’s financial sector, where banks continue to focus on governance, innovation, customer-centric services, and sustainable business growth.
