Alliance Air Celebrates 500th Flight to Jaffna, Enhancing Chennai-Jaffna Links

Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, celebrated a major milestone by completing its 500th flight operation to Jaffna International Airport on August 6, 2024. This achievement underscores the airline’s dedication to improving connectivity between Chennai, India, and Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

Recommencing commercial flights on December 12, 2022, after a pandemic hiatus, Alliance Air has been instrumental in linking Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s capital, with Jaffna in Sri Lanka’s northern province. Currently, the airline offers daily flights on the Chennai-Jaffna route, facilitating travel for cultural, business, and tourism purposes between the two cities.

Using its ATR72 aircraft, Alliance Air has transported over 50,000 passengers through the Northern Gateway in 2024. The Airport Aviation ground handling team has been responsible for providing comprehensive ground services, ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience. This direct air link between Chennai and Jaffna not only supports the local economy by boosting tourism and generating foreign revenue but also strengthens India-Sri Lanka relations and fosters regional development.
