Capital Goods accounted for over a quarter of daily turnover as the index recovered modestly on subdued trading activity

The Capital Goods sector led trading activity on the Colombo Stock Exchange, accounting for 27% of daily turnover, as the broader market recorded a modest recovery on turnover that remained well below its monthly average.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose 32.83 points, or 0.16%, to close at 21,056.26, while the S&P SL20 added 3.93 points to finish at 5,928.89. Total turnover for the session stood at LKR 1.34 billion, a decline of 43.1% against the monthly average of LKR 2.3 billion, while trading volume came in at 39.36 million shares.
Beyond Capital Goods, the Banking and Materials sectors together contributed a further 32% of turnover, meaning the three sectors combined accounted for close to 60% of all trading activity on the day. Among individual counters, SEMB.X led volume contribution with an 11% share, followed by BIL, LOFC, LVEF and SUN.
High-net-worth investors accounted for a significant share of trading activity, while retail investor participation held at typical levels for the session. Foreign investors remained net sellers, recording an outflow of LKR 5.91 million for the day, against a month-to-date net outflow of LKR 1.11 billion and a year-to-date net outflow of LKR 56.85 billion.
Among individual stocks, SEMB led gainers with a 10% advance, followed by ONAL, LGL.X, PARQ and SING. On the downside, LGL led losers with an 8% decline, followed by EML, UBF, BOPL and HUNA.
