The Ceylon Tea Traders Association (CTTA) held a successful charity auction last evening, raising more than Rs.46 million. This event, coinciding with the Colombo International Tea Convention Conference 2024, is set to support the Colombo Tea Traders’ Charity Trust.
CTTA Chairman Sanjaya Herath highlighted that the funds will be used specifically to enhance educational standards for children in tea plantations. The goal is to develop 130 smart classrooms and provide education in English.
The auction featured a curated selection of premium Ceylon teas, including black and artisan varieties from various growing regions. The auction, conducted in the traditional outcry format, offered 39 lots from seven tea-growing regions.
The previous CTTA charity auction in 2017 raised approximately Rs.74 million.
