CINEC Campus Open Week guides students on higher education

CINEC Campus Open Week to guide students on higher education pathways launches at the Malabe campus from 4 to 11 April, offering students and parents a comprehensive view of academic programs and career opportunities available at one of Sri Lanka’s largest private higher education institutions.

CINEC Campus Open Week provides pathways for students to explore academic and career opportunities

The week-long event at CINEC Campus Malabe allows visitors to explore lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and simulation facilities while interacting with faculty and staff. This initiative provides a platform for students to gain detailed insights into program structures, academic pathways, and career options before making crucial higher education decisions.

CINEC Campus Deputy Chairman and Deputy CEO, Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, emphasized that the Open Week is designed to centralize access to academic information, enabling students with minimum A/L qualifications to understand available diploma, degree, and postgraduate options. He added that the campus also offers alternative foundation routes for those not meeting direct entry requirements.

The campus offers more than 250 programs across eight faculties and three departments, including Maritime Studies, Engineering and Technology, Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality, Law, Education, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Chemistry, Aviation, and Finance. Selected courses maintain international university recognition, allowing students to progress to global institutions depending on program structure and approvals.

Prof. Amaratunge noted that CINEC focuses on balancing academic rigor with practical exposure, aiming to produce graduates who are immediately employable. Each year, over 20,000 students enrol in various programs, highlighting sustained demand for high-quality education and the institution’s reputation for professional training.

Students at the campus benefit from a wide range of facilities including lecture halls, technical workshops, simulation labs, and residential dormitories for 280 students. Additional accommodation is available in Malabe and surrounding areas. The campus maintains transparent fees with no hidden costs, offering installment plans, bank loan assistance, and scholarships to eligible students.

A distinctive initiative at CINEC is the “Beyond a Graduate” program, provided free to students. Funded from institutional profit, it develops skills in English, technology, social behaviour, and professional conduct, awarding an additional certificate upon completion. The program aims to enhance both personal and professional development.

The Faculty of Maritime Sciences runs a cadet training program that offers students pathways to high-paying maritime careers, including opportunities to earn US$3,000–4,000 per month and eventually qualify as ship captains. The program emphasizes discipline, decision-making, and global exposure, with the faculty actively encouraging increased female participation.

Management and Social Sciences students can pursue programs in International Transportation Management, Logistics and Supply Chain, Tourism and Hospitality, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Banking and Finance, and Accounting. Programs include internships, field visits, seminars, workshops, and group projects to reinforce theoretical learning with practical application.

Admissions are based on GCE Advanced Level qualifications, requiring a minimum of three passes in a single sitting for direct entry. Alternative foundation programs and diploma pathways are available to support students from diverse academic backgrounds. The campus also supports international transfers for eligible programs.

CINEC operates under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards, employing lecturers with postgraduate qualifications and industry experience. The campus upholds core values of wisdom, integrity, discipline, and competence while providing amenities such as cafeterias, gyms, and swimming pools. Branches in Nugegoda, Jaffna, and Trincomalee expand access to higher education, complemented by international maritime training in Fiji and the Seychelles.

Looking ahead, CINEC plans to open a dedicated business school in Dehiwala offering UK-aligned MBA programs, further strengthening postgraduate education options. The Open Week allows students and parents to engage with admissions and academic staff, explore financial and accommodation options, and plan educational and career pathways in one comprehensive setting.
