The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recently organized an awareness session titled “Creating Opportunities for Wealth Creation and Diversification” at the Hilton, Colombo. The event aimed to educate investors on the diverse alternative instruments available at the CSE, complementing traditional equity investments, and highlighting how these products can drive returns.
The forum attracted over 160 participants, including institutional investors, high-net-worth individuals, primary dealers, fund managers, and rating agencies.
In his opening remarks, CSE Chairman Mr. Dilshan Wirasekera noted the shift from a traditionally equity-dominated market to one offering various innovative financial products, including stock borrowing and lending, short selling, sustainable bonds, infrastructure bonds, and Islamic financial products, all designed to attract capital from regions like the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
SEC Chairman Mr. Faizal Salieh emphasized the importance of sustainability-linked products to appeal to ESG-conscious investors and outlined plans for expanding corporate debt trading, sustainable bonds, and introducing derivatives and risk hedging instruments at the CSE.
The event featured presentations from key industry experts, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session that provided attendees with valuable insights into the evolving investment landscape.
