Dialog Axiata PLC has introduced ‘GanuDenu QR’, a QR-based payment solution integrated into the MyDialog App, enabling users to send and receive money instantly through Dialog Finance PLC and eZ Cash accounts. The initiative marks a notable step in expanding the scope of QR payments in Sri Lanka beyond merchant-based transactions to direct individual transfers.

The new feature arrives at a time when digital payment adoption is steadily increasing across the country. While QR-based payments have largely been associated with retail and merchant ecosystems, ‘GanuDenu QR’ introduces a more versatile use case by allowing individuals to transact directly with one another using a simple QR code. This approach reduces reliance on cash while improving convenience for users managing small, everyday financial interactions.

Dialog Launches ‘GanuDenu QR’, Making Cashless Transfers Free for All with eZ Cash and Dialog Finance with a focus on accessibility and affordability. Users can send or receive up to LKR 5,000 per transaction free of charge, making the service particularly attractive for routine payments such as splitting bills, settling informal transactions, or sharing expenses within families and communities. The zero-fee structure for these transactions is expected to encourage broader adoption, particularly among users who may be hesitant to transition from cash-based systems.

A key feature of the platform is its interoperability across the LankaPay network, which enables seamless transactions across all Central Bank-accredited banks, non-bank financial institutions, and fintech platforms. This ensures that users are not limited to a single ecosystem, enhancing the overall utility of the service and aligning with national efforts to create an integrated digital payments infrastructure. The support of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Digital Economy has also been instrumental in facilitating the rollout, including the waiver of transaction fees for smaller transfers.

The launch coincides with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period, providing a timely digital alternative for traditional monetary exchanges during Avurudu celebrations. However, the broader objective extends beyond seasonal usage, with Dialog positioning the solution as a long-term enabler of digital financial inclusion. By simplifying the process of transferring funds, the platform is expected to appeal to a wide demographic, including users who may be new to digital financial services.

Commenting on the launch, Supun Weerasinghe, Director and Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata PLC, emphasised the strategic importance of digital payments in shaping the country’s economic future. He noted that the expansion of QR-based solutions to include peer-to-peer transactions represents a significant evolution in how Sri Lankans engage with digital finance. According to him, the initiative reflects a collaborative effort between the private sector and regulatory authorities to build a more inclusive and connected digital economy.

In addition to the core functionality, users making their first send transaction via ‘GanuDenu QR’ will receive 2GB of free data, further incentivising adoption and engagement with the platform. Such incentives are likely to accelerate user onboarding, particularly among younger and tech-savvy segments who are already familiar with mobile-based financial services.

From a broader economic perspective, the introduction of solutions like ‘GanuDenu QR’ supports Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and reduce dependence on cash transactions. As digital payment ecosystems expand, they contribute to greater financial transparency, improved efficiency, and enhanced economic participation across different segments of society.
