Education USA Roadshow Draws Over 1,300 Aspiring Sri Lankan Students

More than 1,300 students and parents from Colombo, Galle, and Matara participated in the EducationUSA roadshow held from March 20 to 22, organized by the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka. The series of free education fairs offered a platform for Sri Lankan students to explore higher education opportunities in the United States.

The roadshow attracted students seeking information on undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. University representatives provided in-depth details on academic offerings, campus life, application processes, and financial aid options. Students also had the opportunity to ask direct questions and build connections with admissions officers from a range of U.S. institutions.

“Their curiosity and ambition were remarkable, and we’re excited to support their journey ahead,” said Sri Kumar Panyam of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His colleague, Pranisha Rakesh, shared similar enthusiasm: “We had the pleasure of meeting brilliant young minds and engaging in inspiring conversations with Sri Lankan students.”

The roadshow featured representatives from nine accredited American institutions, including Fullerton College, George Mason University, The George Washington University, Quinnipiac University, University of New Haven, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wichita State University, Wesleyan College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The US-SLFC also took the opportunity to inform attendees about scholarships and exchange programs available to Sri Lankan citizens through Fulbright and other initiatives.

“From STEM to entrepreneurship, from innovative arts programs to women’s or community colleges, we have it all in the U.S.,” said Patrick McNamara, Executive Director of the US-SLFC. “Sri Lankan students are hungry for these types of choices, as evidenced by the excellent turnout in all three cities.”
