Exporters Call on New President to Foster Business-Friendly Environment in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s export community has urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to streamline administrative processes and cultivate a more business-friendly environment that empowers entrepreneurs and exporters to drive the nation’s economic growth.

The National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) expressed its support for President Dissanayake’s commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing their importance in restoring public trust and enhancing state efficiency. The NCE highlighted that reducing bureaucratic red tape is essential for accelerating economic development.

“The exporters and businesses have faced unnecessary delays and obstacles due to outdated administrative processes,” the NCE stated, while congratulating the newly elected president.

The chamber further urged Dissanayake to prioritize an export-driven economy as a key strategy for sustainable development, noting that increasing export revenues is crucial for alleviating the country’s debt burden, improving the balance of trade, and boosting national income.

Acknowledging the significant challenges ahead, the NCE pointed out that Sri Lanka is grappling with severe financial constraints, particularly regarding its debt repayment obligations. It stressed that balancing these commitments with fostering economic growth will require steady leadership and innovative solutions.

A critical factor for the new government’s success will be fulfilling key election promises, especially regarding the eradication of corruption and waste that have long impeded the country’s economic and administrative systems.

The NCE affirmed its readiness to assist the government in steering the country toward economic resilience. “We look forward to collaborating closely with the government to drive growth in the export sector and ensure that implemented policies contribute to Sri Lanka’s long-term prosperity,” it concluded.
