Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) has successfully acquired full ownership of Acuity Partners Ltd., rebranding it as HNB Investment Bank. This move aims to provide a more integrated suite of financial solutions, reinforcing its role in transforming Sri Lanka’s financial sector.
On 20 January 2025, HNB PLC finalized the acquisition of the remaining 50% stake in Acuity Partners from DFCC Bank for Rs. 6.5 billion. Previously a joint venture, Acuity Partners played a key role in corporate finance, stockbroking, primary dealer services, and venture capital investments.
HNB Investment Bank is set to streamline financial services by integrating stockbroking, investment banking, and government securities under one roof. Acuity Stockbrokers will now operate as HNB Stockbrokers, while government securities trading will be handled by HNB Securities. The new entity will offer capital market solutions, corporate advisory services, and investment banking expertise.
HNB PLC Managing Director and CEO Damith Pallewatte called the acquisition a “landmark moment,” emphasizing that the rebranding signifies a commitment to expanding investment banking solutions. He highlighted the bank’s vision to bridge Sri Lankan enterprises with global capital and drive economic growth.
A key focus of HNB Investment Bank will be expanding investment opportunities beyond corporate clients, targeting upper-middle-class investors. The bank also plans to launch sector-specific investment funds for SMEs, fintech, agritech, and meditech.
Additionally, HNB sees significant potential in Colombo Port City for attracting foreign direct investments (FDIs). Having worked closely with Port City Developers, the bank aims to offer trusted investment platforms for global investors.
HNB Investment Bank will also participate in two major investment roadshows in 2025 to promote Sri Lanka as a global investment destination. Group CEO and Managing Director Ray Abeywardena emphasized that the transformation blends legacy and innovation, positioning HNB Investment Bank as a key financial player in the region.
The bank aims to enhance financial inclusivity, leverage digital transformation, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s capital markets, setting a new benchmark in the financial services industry.
