The HNB Superbrand 2025 recognition underscores the bank’s enduring credibility as one of Sri Lanka’s most respected financial institutions, reflecting sustained confidence from customers and independent brand evaluators across a rapidly evolving banking landscape.
HNB Superbrand 2025 status reinforces trust and leadership in banking
Hatton National Bank PLC has been conferred Superbrand status for 2025, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing presence within Sri Lanka’s financial sector. The recognition, awarded by the global Superbrands organisation following an independent assessment of brand strength, reflects HNB’s consistent performance, institutional reliability, and continued relevance in a competitive banking environment.
The Superbrand status was officially presented to HNB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Damith Pallewatte and Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Wijemanne by Shariful Islam, Chairman of Superbrands Sri Lanka. The ceremony was held in the presence of Media Services (Pvt) Limited Managing Director Brian Emmanuel and General Manager – Marketing Frank Gabriel, reaffirming the importance of brand credibility within the local corporate landscape.
Commenting on the recognition, Mr. Pallewatte noted that the HNB Superbrand 2025 distinction represents the confidence placed in the institution by generations of Sri Lankans. He emphasised that this confidence is rooted in a client-focused operating model supported by disciplined governance and a strong organisational culture. According to him, HNB’s approach to banking prioritises responsible decision-making, adaptability, and long-term value creation for customers and the broader economy.
HNB serves a diverse customer base spanning youth banking, microfinance, small and medium-sized enterprises, emerging corporates, and large institutions. The bank positions itself as a long-term financial partner, offering tailored solutions designed to support customers at different stages of personal and business growth. This relationship-led approach has remained central to the bank’s operating philosophy and brand identity.
A key factor contributing to the HNB Superbrand 2025 recognition is the bank’s balanced approach to digital transformation. While expanding digital banking platforms to enhance convenience and accessibility, HNB continues to preserve meaningful human interaction where required. This strategy has driven strong adoption of its mobile banking application, which is actively used by more than 1.1 million customers and is widely regarded for reliability and ease of use.
In parallel, the bank has maintained sustained investment in cybersecurity, data protection, and risk management frameworks. These efforts have reinforced customer confidence at a time when trust plays a decisive role in financial decision-making. HNB’s ability to integrate technology with sound risk oversight has supported its reputation as a dependable institution amid ongoing economic and regulatory changes.
HNB’s innovation track record includes introducing Sri Lanka’s first metal Mastercard and expanding digital merchant acceptance through HNB Accept in partnership with Visa. The bank has also played a role in national digital initiatives, including securing an exclusive five-year mandate for expressway toll gate digitisation. These projects highlight the institution’s capacity to deliver secure, scalable solutions aligned with national infrastructure priorities.
The HNB Superbrand 2025 status further reflects the bank’s disciplined execution and long-term strategic focus. With 257 customer centres nationwide, HNB remains one of Sri Lanka’s largest private sector banks, combining scale with technological capability. Its leadership position has been reinforced through multiple international and local accolades.
HNB was recognised as Sri Lanka’s Best Retail Bank for the 15th time at the Asian Banker Global Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards 2024. The bank was also ranked among the Top 1,000 World Banks by The Banker Magazine and named Sri Lanka’s Strongest Bank for 2025 by TAB Global. Additional recognition includes being awarded Bank of the Year Sri Lanka 2025 by The Banker Magazine UK and Best Bank for Large Corporates at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2025.
Beyond financial performance, HNB has received widespread recognition for sustainability and corporate responsibility. The bank was honoured with the overall Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award at the CCC Awards 2025 and ranked among Sri Lanka’s Top 10 Corporate Citizens, reflecting its structured Environmental, Social, and Governance framework. It was also named among the Top 25 Corporates at the LMD Awards, acknowledging its consistent performance across multiple dimensions.
Collectively, these achievements reinforce the significance of the HNB Superbrand 2025 recognition, affirming the bank’s ability to combine trust, innovation, and institutional strength while continuing to play a meaningful role in Sri Lanka’s economic progress.
