Kelani Saviya Enrolls 12th Intake with Rs 1.7 Mn Sponsorship

Kelani Cables PLC has successfully continued its award-winning Kelani Saviya skill development CSR program for the 17th consecutive year, enrolling 70 students for its 12th intake at a recent ceremony held at the University of Peradeniya. The program was launched with a total sponsorship of Rs 1.7 million.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Faculty of Engineering at UoP, attended by prominent figures including Dr. Udaya Dissanayake (Dean, Faculty of Engineering), Professor Lilantha Samaranayake (Head, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department), M N R K Ratnayake (Course Director), Dr. Wasantha Wickremasinghe, and Dr. Dinesh Suranga Pathirana (Head of Sales, Kelani Cables), along with Jayantha Wijesinghe, the co-initiator and coordinator of Kelani Saviya.

This year, 70 students qualified to follow the 2024/2025 Kelani Saviya skill development program. The first module was delivered by Senior Professor Manjula Fernando, a former PUCSL Chairman. The program was originally designed by Senior Professor Janaka Ekanayake, who co-initiated this unique CSR project in 2007.

Kelani Cables PLC has solely funded the Kelani Saviya program since its inception. At the ceremony, Dr. Pathirana presented a cheque for Rs 1.7 million to UoP authorities, highlighting that the program has been running for over 17 years, making it one of the longest-standing CSR initiatives in Sri Lanka. He also emphasized Kelani Cables’ significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s economy, generating a turnover of over Rs 13 billion and providing more than 500 direct employment opportunities while exporting products to over 13 countries.
