Positive News for Tourism
The Republic of Korea has relaxed its travel alert for Sri Lanka, a move welcomed by the tourism industry. As of July 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea has adjusted Sri Lanka’s travel alert from level 2 to level 1.
“The revised alert, which reflects improved security and health conditions, is expected to attract more Korean visitors to Sri Lanka,” stated the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka.
Andrews Travels, a leading operator in the Korean tourism market, expressed its delight at the news. “This will encourage the tourism industry, especially with SriLankan Airlines planning to introduce a third flight to Seoul in the winter season. We are also hosting a familiarization trip this week for leading tour operators in Korea,” said Mahen Kariyawasan, Chairman and Managing Director of Andrews Travels.
In recent years, tourist arrivals from Korea peaked at 2,500 in 2020, dropped below 500 in the following two years, and rose to nearly 1,000 in 2023.
