Royal International School Uplifts Rural School with New Computer Lab

Royal International School (RIS) in Kurunegala extends a helping hand to Wa/Sri Rahula Vidyalaya in Weragala through their ‘RIS Manussakama (Humanity)’ social care program. This initiative aims to improve the educational landscape within the North Western Province by providing support to schools serving underprivileged communities.

Responding to a request from Sri Rahula Vidyalaya’s Principal, Ashoka Wanninayake, RIS funded the construction of a new computer laboratory for the school. The project also saw valuable contributions from the school’s alumni and parents who volunteered their physical labor. The official opening ceremony on March 5th was graced by the presence of RIS Chairperson, Attorney-in-Law Sandra B. Wanduragala.

Established in 1935, Sri Rahula Vidyalaya has a rich history, starting from a temple location to its current 4-acre premises. Currently, it functions as a junior school with 164 students nurtured by a dedicated teaching staff of 19. The school boasts a record of academic excellence, with all students from the previous year’s Grade Five Scholarship Examination exceeding 100 marks.

Sri Rahula Vidyalaya has consistently demonstrated its students’ talents beyond academics as well. Two students secured selection for provincial sports competitions, while another has qualified for an All-Island language and literature competition. The school has also achieved recognition at the provincial level in aesthetic subjects.

The addition of a new computer lab fills a critical need for Sri Rahula Vidyalaya and its students. This enhanced learning environment will empower them to excel further in their educational pursuits. The ‘RIS Manussakama’ program by Royal International School serves as a shining example of social responsibility, bridging the gap in educational resources and paving the way for a brighter future for deserving students.
