Silawathura Bust: Duo Apprehended with Cache of Sea Cucumbers

A recent search operation conducted by the Navy near Pandaraweli beach in Silawathura led to the apprehension of two individuals caught in the act of preparing approximately 3500 illegally harvested sea cucumbers for transportation. The Navy also seized the cab used for this illicit activity.

The Navy’s vigilant patrols and search operations in coastal and sea areas aim to curb illegal fishing practices. On May 14, the Pandaraweli Coastal Observation Point, under SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command, successfully intercepted the illegal operation.

The apprehended individuals, both residents of Mannar aged 24 and 31, along with the confiscated sea cucumbers and the vehicle, were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Silawathura for further legal proceedings.

This successful operation underscores the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding marine resources and enforcing laws against illegal fishing activities in Sri Lanka’s coastal waters.
