Sri Lanka 100 2026 brands surpass pre-crisis peak as banking leads brand value growth

According to the latest Sri Lanka 100 2026 report published by Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy, the combined value of Sri Lanka’s top 100 brands rose 17% year-on-year to Rs.652 billion. The figure exceeds the previous record of Rs.630 billion achieved in 2019 before the country’s economic crisis, highlighting the resilience of leading businesses and the recovery of corporate value across multiple industries.

Brand Finance Lanka Chairman Ruchi Gunewardene said the latest rankings represent more than a financial achievement, describing the milestone as a sign of growing confidence in the country’s economy and the institutions driving its recovery.

He noted that while the banking sector continues to dominate Sri Lanka’s brand landscape, future growth will increasingly depend on diversification, digital transformation and the wider adoption of artificial intelligence across industries.

The banking industry remained the single largest contributor to total brand value, accounting for 42% of the overall ranking with a combined value of Rs.275 billion, representing a 14% increase from the previous year. Six banking institutions were ranked among the country’s ten most valuable brands, underlining the sector’s importance to financial stability and economic development.

State-owned Bank of Ceylon retained its position as Sri Lanka’s most valuable brand for the second consecutive year with a brand value of Rs.65.45 billion and an AAA brand rating. Commercial Bank secured second place after increasing its brand value by 18% to Rs.54.91 billion, supported by its leadership in digital payment infrastructure and interbank payment processing.

Dialog Axiata ranked third overall with a brand value of Rs.41.12 billion, while emerging as the country’s strongest brand. The telecommunications leader achieved a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 89.4 out of 100 and earned an AAA brand strength rating, overtaking Keells as Sri Lanka’s strongest brand.

Keells ranked as the sixth most valuable brand overall with a value of Rs.26.35 billion while retaining a strong AAA rating. Commercial Bank followed as the country’s third strongest brand, achieving a BSI score of 87 and maintaining its AAA brand strength status.

Several financial institutions also strengthened their positions in this year’s Sri Lanka brands rankings. Sampath Bank increased its brand value by 5% to Rs.26 billion, supported by continued digital banking innovation, while Nations Trust Bank recorded one of the strongest improvements among banks, with brand value rising 35% to Rs.9.95 billion following the acquisition of HSBC Sri Lanka’s retail banking business.

Outside the banking sector, retail, telecommunications, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing and consumer goods brands also recorded healthy performances. Cargills Food City, Lion Beer, SLT-MOBITEL, Singer, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Dilmah all retained positions among Sri Lanka’s leading brands.

One of the report’s notable success stories was PickMe, which continued to strengthen its position as one of Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing technology brands. Brand value increased 11% to Rs.4.78 billion as the homegrown mobility platform expanded its digital ecosystem through AI-powered pricing, multilingual artificial intelligence customer support, demand forecasting and enhanced safety features.

The continued rise of locally developed digital platforms reflects the growing importance of innovation within Sri Lanka’s corporate sector. According to Brand Finance, companies investing in technology, customer experience and digital transformation are increasingly strengthening both brand value and long-term competitiveness.
