Sri Lanka and UAE Sign Investment Protection Pact to Strengthen Economic Ties

Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments Agreement, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing economic and investment cooperation

The agreement was formalized during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to the UAE for the World Governments Summit 2025. It was signed by UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs Mohamed Bin Hadi Al Hussaini and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bijitha Herath.

The pact provides a secure legal framework to expand investment opportunities and includes key provisions such as investment protection mechanisms, dispute resolution frameworks, and transparent policy structures. It aims to boost investor confidence, foster long-term economic collaboration, and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.

This strategic agreement aligns with Sri Lanka’s broader investment development goals, positioning the country as a more competitive destination for global investors.
