Sri Lanka Excels in Tourist Visa Accessibility, Enhancing Global Tourism Appeal

Colombo has strengthened its position as a leading South Asian destination, ranking 33rd globally for “easy to get visa,” thanks to the introduction of visa-free entry for nationals from 35 countries. This initiative has significantly boosted the city’s appeal, making it one of the easiest South Asian cities to visit.

The Brand Finance Global City Index results, based on insights from over 15,000 respondents across 20 countries, assessed 100 cities on Key Performance Indicators like Familiarity, Reputation, and Consideration. These measures illustrate how well each city is perceived in terms of livability, workability, study opportunities, tourism, retirement, and investment. Respondents also rated cities on attributes such as Business and Investment, and Culture and Heritage.

In addition to its accessibility ranking, Colombo moved up 10 places in healthcare, ranking 74th globally. The city’s internationally accredited hospitals and cutting-edge medical facilities contribute to its growing appeal as a destination for healthcare services, especially for specialized care.

Sri Lanka’s strategic focus on scientific advancement and a thriving tourism sector is expected to solidify its global position, drawing discerning travellers and fostering economic growth through innovation and technological development.

Brand Finance Lanka Chairman Ruchi Gunewardene noted that Colombo’s progress in accessibility, healthcare, and science and technology reflects its commitment to offering a world-class urban experience. He highlighted the resilience of the city following last year’s political challenges, positioning Colombo as a beacon of hope and progress in South Asia.

Additionally, the Brand Finance Sri Lanka 100 2025 journal will be released in spring 2025, providing detailed insights into Sri Lanka’s most valuable and strongest brands, market trends, and strategies shaping the business landscape.
