Sri Lanka Highlights Pharma Sector at Medi Pharm Expo Vietnam 2024

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Vietnam, successfully organized the participation of Sri Lankan pharmaceutical manufacturers at the 22nd Medi Pharm Expo Vietnam 2024, held from August 1 to 3, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Recognized as a promising sector for export and foreign exchange earnings, Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical industry was highlighted at the event through a dedicated country pavilion. The pavilion aimed to connect Sri Lankan companies with global markets, explore contract manufacturing opportunities, and gain insights into industry trends and innovations.

Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market, one of the fastest-growing in the region, imports around 40% of its pharmaceutical needs, totaling $6.9 billion in 2023. However, Sri Lankan companies have yet to enter this market. The Sri Lankan delegation, comprising Gammainterpharm Ltd., Astron Ltd., and Morison Ltd., showcased a range of pharmaceutical products, including vitamins, nutraceuticals, antibiotics, and cardiovascular treatments.

The expo, attended by over 10,000 visitors and 450 exhibitors from 26 countries, provided Sri Lankan manufacturers with an excellent platform to establish business contacts and explore new market trends. The EDB, with support from the Sri Lanka Embassy in Vietnam, also facilitated connections with the Vietnam Drug Regulatory Authority and the Vietnam Drug Distributors Association, fostering mutual benefits for both countries.

The EDB remains committed to promoting Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical industry on the global stage, creating new opportunities and enhancing international visibility.
