The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka inaugurated the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the prestigious 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair on September 9, marking a key moment in Sri Lanka’s global trade efforts. The event was officially inaugurated by Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce Permanent Secretary, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, highlighting the collaborative relationship between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the gems and jewellery industry.
This year’s pavilion featured 35 leading Sri Lankan companies, offering a stunning array of precious gemstones and fine jewellery. Known for its rich heritage and being one of the world’s oldest sources of blue sapphires, Sri Lanka once again underscored its reputation as a global leader in the sector.
Permanent Secretary Leewiraphan praised Sri Lanka’s exceptional contributions to the industry and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations. Sri Lankan Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe also took the opportunity to engage with exporters, fostering connections and discussing future collaborations.
The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair, running from September 9-13, is one of Asia’s most prominent trade events, attracting exhibitors and buyers from around the globe. Sri Lanka’s participation underscores its commitment to boosting exports and attracting investments in the gems and jewellery sector.
Notable attendees included Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director General of the Department of International Trade Promotion of Thailand, and Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Chairman of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, among other dignitaries and representatives from both countries.
