Sri Lanka Tea Average Drops at First January Sale

Sri Lanka’s tea price average fell by 1.5% during the first sale in January, according to industry data from Ceylon Tea Brokers.

The national weekly sale average decreased by 18.99 rupees to 1,177.74 rupees per kilogram, compared to 1,196.73 rupees the previous week. However, December’s monthly average price rose 4.18% to 1,184.82 rupees compared to the same period last year.

Category Highlights:

  • Low Grown Teas: Weekly average fell by 2.8% to 1,245.83 rupees.
  • Medium Grown Teas: Average increased slightly by 0.1% to 1,023.36 rupees, with BOP1 moving up by 50 rupees per kilogram.
  • High Grown Teas: Weekly average rose 0.3% to 1,106.59 rupees per kilogram.
  • CTC Teas: High grown CTC was priced at 1,103.87 rupees, medium grown at 913.77 rupees, and low grown at 908.23 rupees per kilogram at the auction held on January 8.
