Sri Lanka’s government plans to review its wind energy procurement practices, including the project involving India’s Adani Group, after the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath.
Herath acknowledged concerns raised by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union (CEBEU), and the Court, which will be addressed once the new government is in place. He emphasized that no major policy decisions regarding these projects would be made before the parliamentary elections.
The government aims to introduce competitive procurement practices for wind energy projects, as outlined in the NPP Sri Lanka presidential election manifesto, to ensure the equitable distribution of wind energy benefits to the Sri Lankan people.
