Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Promotes Digital Payments in Nuwara Eliya

Sri Lanka’s central bank is set to conduct a digital payments promotion in Nuwara Eliya to encourage the public to register for mobile payment apps. The event aims to facilitate the public in making safe, convenient, and cost-effective digital payments for daily needs, offering an alternative to cash transactions.

Banks, finance companies, e-money service providers like telecommunication companies, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are expected to participate. Attendees will also have the chance to use the LANKAQR payment method to access special discounts on goods and services from participating vendors.

CBSL Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe will attend the event on March 22-23 at the Gregory Lake car park. The central bank has invited the public to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the latest digital payment methods and receive personalized guidance on making digital payments using their mobile phones.
