In light of the escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, SriLankan Airlines has announced a rerouting of its direct flight to London. The precautionary measure involves altering the flight path to avoid airspace over Iraq, with the new route passing over Egypt.
Deepal Perera, the Manager of Corporate Communications for SriLankan Airlines, confirmed that the direct London flight was the only service impacted by the recent outbreak of conflict. “We had precautionary plans in place to avoid this region in turmoil. Therefore, we are not affected by these recent developments,” he stated.
Perera noted that this adjusted flight route had previously been implemented during similar conflicts, showcasing the airline’s commitment to passenger safety. Following the commencement of hostilities on Tuesday, the airline acted swiftly to modify its operations.
The decision comes as other international airlines, including Aegean Airlines, Air Algerie, airBaltic, Air Europa, Air France, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, have either suspended flights to the region or are avoiding affected airspace due to concerns of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
