State Minister: Rupee Emerges as One of the World’s Fastest-Growing Currencies

State Minister of Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has lauded the impressive performance of the Sri Lanka Rupee, asserting its position as one of the fastest-growing currencies globally. Highlighting its exceptional growth in the first four months of this year, Dr. Siyambalapitiya noted significant gains against major currencies worldwide. The Rupee has surged by 9.1 percent against the US Dollar, 12.7 percent against the Euro, 10.8 percent against the Sterling Pound, and 11.4 percent against the Chinese Yuan during this period.

The State Minister emphasized the Rupee’s robust growth, showcasing a remarkable 21 percent increase compared to the Japanese Yen, 9.5 percent against the Indian Rupee, and 14.2 percent against the Australian Dollar. These impressive gains underscore Sri Lanka’s strengthening currency and its resilience in the global economic landscape. Dr. Siyambalapitiya’s remarks shed light on the positive trajectory of the Rupee, signaling confidence in the country’s economic stability and growth prospects amidst evolving global financial dynamics.
