Representatives from the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) recently engaged in an interactive discussion with India’s ruling Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) to gain insights into the party’s election campaign strategies and the electoral process in India. This meeting, part of the BJP’s “Know BJP” initiative, saw BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda sharing the party’s campaign strategies and electoral journey with representatives from 18 political parties spanning ten countries. Nadda emphasized that the initiative aimed not only to showcase the BJP’s achievements but also to inspire others by highlighting its contributions to nation-building.
Among the attendees were Sumudu Kekulandala, head of the UNP’s Young Professionals organization, and SLPP MP Nipuna Ranawaka. They joined representatives from various political parties across ten countries as part of the “Know BJP” knowledge-sharing program. The invitation extended to these Sri Lankan representatives was in line with the initiative launched by Nadda on the BJP’s 43rd foundation day in 2023.
During their visit to India, the UNP and SLPP representatives met with BJP President J.P. Nadda, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Viashnaw in New Delhi at the BJP Headquarters. The interactive sessions provided insights into the BJP’s election strategies and India’s electoral processes, benefiting political representatives from neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, as well as countries like Australia, Israel, Uganda, Tanzania, Russia, and Mauritius who also participated in the initiative.
