Vijitha Appoints New Tourism Advisory Committee for Industry Growth

Some of the top minds in the industry have been appointed to the latest Tourism Advisory Committee by Minister Vijitha Herath.

Established under Section 32 of the Tourism Act No. 38 of 2005, the committee is tasked with advising the Government on strategic and sustainable tourism development, aligning with the National Tourism Policy to drive industry growth.

The newly appointed committee comprises industry leaders, professionals, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, ensuring a comprehensive approach to achieving Sri Lanka’s tourism objectives.

Leading the committee as Chairman is Dileep Mudadeniya, Senior Vice President at John Keells Holdings PLC. Other members include Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam, Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Chairman Dheera Hettiarachchi, SriLankan Airlines CEO Richard Nuttall, and several prominent figures from academia, hospitality, and tourism sectors.

For 2025, Sri Lanka aims to attract three million visitors and generate $5 billion in tourism revenue, with a long-term goal of welcoming five million tourists by 2030. The country’s tourism sector demonstrated strong resilience in 2024, recording 2.05 million arrivals and over $3.2 billion in revenue, reflecting a 52.38% year-on-year increase.
