Luxury Airport Shuttle Service Launched from BIA to Colombo and Makumbura

A new luxury ‘Airport Terminal Shuttle Service’ has been launched from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to the Colombo Fort Railway Station and the Multimodal Transport Centre (MMC) in Makumbura. The service was officially inaugurated by Transport and Highways Ministry Secretary Ranjith Rubasinghe, addressing a longstanding issue for travelers at Sri Lanka’s main airport.

Previously, foreign tourists arriving in Sri Lanka faced the inconvenience of having no direct transport service from the airport, often having to make their way to the Avariwatta bus stand, located about two kilometers away. This new service, a collaboration between Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited, the Transport and Highways Ministry, and a private bus company, aims to provide a seamless and comfortable travel option.

The shuttle service, operated by a fleet of 10 luxury buses, will travel from BIA along the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway without any intermediate stops. A fare of Rs. 3,000 per passenger is charged for a single journey.

The first bus of this new service departed this morning at 11:45 a.m. from the BIA arrivals terminal to the Makumbura MMC.
