HNB and Singer Advances Agriculture Through Leasing Solutions with a new strategic partnership aimed at expanding access to modern farming machinery and strengthening productivity across Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.
HNB and Singer Advances Agriculture Through Leasing Solutions for farmers
Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) announced that it has partnered with Singer Sri Lanka PLC to provide enhanced leasing facilities for John Deere tractors distributed by Singer Sri Lanka, supporting farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs with improved access to mechanised farming solutions.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen agricultural financing opportunities while encouraging the adoption of advanced farming equipment to improve operational efficiency and long-term sustainability within the sector.
Under the partnership, HNB Leasing will offer special leasing facilities with equal and structured rental plans for customers purchasing John Deere tractors through Singer Sri Lanka. Customers will also receive a range of value-added benefits, including a credit card with the first-year annual fee waived, discounted vehicle insurance premiums through HNB General Insurance, and eligibility for benefits under the Govi Saviya product.
Industry analysts note that increasing access to mechanised equipment remains critical for improving agricultural productivity in Sri Lanka, particularly as the sector faces rising labour costs, changing climate conditions, and increasing demand for efficient cultivation methods. Partnerships that combine financial accessibility with advanced machinery are viewed as important drivers of modernisation within the industry.
Commenting on the initiative, HNB Senior Vice President and Head of Retail Banking Kanchana Karunagama said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting the country’s agricultural development through practical and sustainable financial solutions.
“At HNB, we continue to place strong emphasis on enabling growth in Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector through responsible and forward-looking financial solutions. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to empowering the agricultural community through accessible leasing solutions for tractors that promote progress and resilience,” he stated.
Karunagama added that the collaboration combines traditional agricultural practices with modern technology to create sustainable growth opportunities while improving efficiency and productivity for farmers and agricultural businesses.
Singer Sri Lanka Group Managing Director Mahesh Wijewardene said the partnership brings together financial expertise and industry knowledge to support the advancement of Sri Lanka’s farming sector.
“We are grateful to HNB for this strategic partnership, which brings together financial strength and industry expertise to support Sri Lanka’s agricultural advancement. By combining reliable access to John Deere machinery with comprehensive service support, we aim to empower farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs with solutions that enhance productivity,” he said.
The initiative is expected to improve accessibility to John Deere tractors, a globally recognised agricultural machinery brand widely used for mechanised farming operations. Improved financing access is likely to support both small-scale and large-scale agricultural enterprises seeking to modernise cultivation and harvesting processes.
Market observers believe the partnership highlights the growing role of private sector collaboration in strengthening Sri Lanka’s agricultural ecosystem. Financial institutions are increasingly focusing on agricultural financing products tailored to sector-specific requirements, while equipment providers continue expanding access to technology-driven farming solutions.
The Sri Lankan agriculture sector remains a key contributor to rural employment and food security, with policymakers and industry stakeholders continuing to emphasise the importance of mechanisation and productivity enhancement. Analysts note that access to affordable leasing solutions could help accelerate the adoption of modern machinery among farmers facing capital constraints.
Together, HNB and Singer Sri Lanka said the partnership aims to combine financial capability with trusted agricultural solutions to empower farmers, support rural economic activity, and accelerate sustainable growth within Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.
