Chongqing Airlines has resumed its flights to Colombo, offering three weekly services between the two cities. This move is set to enhance connectivity and promote increased opportunities for tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between China and Sri Lanka.
The reinstated flights offer travelers a convenient option to explore Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and heritage, while also providing easier access for Sri Lankan travelers to Chongqing and beyond.
As China continues to be a significant source market for Sri Lanka’s tourism, the resumption of these flights is expected to attract a steady stream of Chinese tourists. In 2024, China was the fifth-largest source of tourists to Sri Lanka, contributing 131,681 visitors out of 2.05 million total arrivals. By the first week of 2025, Sri Lanka had already welcomed over 2,000 Chinese visitors.
