During the 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sri Lanka in Colombo, President-elect Chandima Hulangamuwa emphasized the urgent need for Sri Lanka to enhance its logistics sector. He highlighted the country’s current Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranking at 73 among 139 nations, indicating room for improvement. Hulangamuwa pointed out the significant progress made by neighboring countries like India, UAE, and Singapore in logistics, making them attractive destinations for foreign investment.
As an advocate for progress, CILT Sri Lanka is committed to providing comprehensive analysis to authorities to elevate the country’s LPI rankings and position Sri Lanka as a premier logistics hub, stated President Hulangamuwa. He stressed the pivotal role of the logistics and transportation sector in boosting the economy and emphasized the need for substantial enhancements across aviation, maritime, rail, and land transportation to establish Sri Lanka as a formidable logistics hub.
President Hulangamuwa pledged close collaboration with industry experts and governmental bodies to leverage collective expertise and propel Sri Lanka towards its rightful place as a global logistics powerhouse. The newly elected board, comprising diverse expertise such as Henry De Silva as VP of Membership Services, Prof. H. R. Pasindu as VP of Education, and Gayathri Karunanayake as VP of Corporate Partners, Events, PR, and Branding, will guide CILT Sri Lanka towards achieving its goals. Additionally, Rajith Ranasinghe was elected as Treasurer and Givantha Ariyaratne as the Secretary, with sixteen Council Members also elected to contribute to the institute’s strategic direction and initiatives.
