The new projects, located in Rathgama and Akmeemana in the Galle District, add a combined 18MW of clean electricity generation capacity to the national grid. Developed through DIMO’s wholly owned subsidiaries as Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, the solar facilities mark another milestone in the company’s long-term investment in renewable energy Sri Lanka.

The development includes the 3MW DIMO Solar Galle Ltd. power plant, together with DIMO Solar Galle Two Ltd., DIMO Solar Galle Three Ltd., and DIMO Solar Galle Four Ltd., each contributing an additional 5MW of installed capacity.

With the completion of the four projects, DIMO’s total cumulative solar generation capacity has increased to 25.845MW (AC), further strengthening its position in Sri Lanka’s growing renewable energy sector.

According to the company, the solar power plants are expected to generate approximately 31.8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by more than 12,945 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) each year.

The projects are also expected to supply electricity to an estimated 37,937 households, contributing to the country’s long-term energy security objectives and supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix.

To maximise operational efficiency and reliability, the facilities incorporate advanced energy technologies, including high-efficiency solar photovoltaic panels, Smart Transformer Station technology, utility-scale grid-connected solar photovoltaic systems and modern monitoring platforms that enable efficient performance management.

Commenting on the achievement, DIMO Executive Director Wijith Pushpawela said the latest investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s transition to sustainable energy.

“DIMO’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s shift towards sustainable and renewable energy solutions is shown in the addition of this 18MW solar power capacity. These projects support long-term environmental sustainability and national energy security in addition to strengthening the national grid with clean energy,” he said.

The latest investment further expands DIMO’s footprint in the country’s renewable energy industry, where demand for clean electricity generation continues to grow alongside national efforts to increase the share of renewable sources in the energy mix.

The four new solar power plants also represent an important addition to large-scale renewable infrastructure in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, supporting both environmental sustainability and economic development through cleaner electricity generation.

As Sri Lanka continues to pursue its long-term renewable energy targets, investments such as these are expected to play a key role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and improving the resilience of the national power system.

The DIMO expands renewable energy portfolio with 18MW solar power addition in Galle project underscores the company’s commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure while supporting renewable energy Sri Lanka and contributing to the country’s broader climate and energy security ambitions.
