FACETS 2026 attracts strong international participation and buyer interest
FACETS 2026, Sri Lanka’s premier international gem and jewellery exhibition, concluded on a high note at The Forum, Cinnamon Life – City of Dreams, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from exhibitors, international buyers, industry stakeholders, and visitors. Widely regarded as one of the most refined editions to date, the exhibition reinforced Sri Lanka’s standing as a trusted global hub for gemstones and fine jewellery.
The three-day event recorded more than 4,500 registered visitors, including approximately 450 foreign buyers and international participants. This strong turnout reaffirmed FACETS’ role as a critical sourcing, networking, and deal-making platform for the global gem and jewellery trade. Industry observers noted that the level of international engagement reflected renewed confidence in Sri Lanka’s gem sector amid growing demand for traceable, ethically sourced gemstones.
Held across two meticulously curated floors at The Forum, the exhibition featured multiple themed pavilions and a thoughtfully planned layout that ensured smooth visitor flow and a vibrant atmosphere throughout. Exhibitors and buyers alike praised the scale, accessibility, and organisation of the venue, describing the environment as both professional and welcoming. Many participants highlighted the seamless integration of exhibition spaces as a key factor contributing to meaningful business interactions.
FACETS 2026 showcased an exceptional collection of gemstones, with Sri Lanka’s world-renowned sapphires taking centre stage alongside a diverse range of coloured gemstones. With more than 100 boothholders participating, the exhibition presented an extensive array of precious and semi-precious stones as well as finished jewellery, catering to a broad spectrum of buyers, from high-end designers to bulk gemstone traders.
A notable highlight of the event was the presence of the Gübelin Gem Lab, which further enhanced international confidence in the exhibition. Its participation reinforced Sri Lanka’s reputation for transparency, authenticity, and quality assurance in the global gemstone market. Buyers indicated that access to internationally recognised gemmological expertise added credibility and strengthened purchasing confidence during negotiations.
In addition to its strong exhibitor lineup, FACETS 2026 introduced several enhanced facilities aimed at elevating the buyer and visitor experience. These included a dedicated open viewing room designed specifically for buyers to examine gemstones in a comfortable and professional setting. A tea and coffee lounge hosted by Barista and Akbar Brothers provided an informal space for networking, while an on-site travel counter offered logistical support for international visitors, reflecting the organisers’ focus on hospitality and convenience.
Beyond the exhibition floor, a series of signature events added depth and character to the programme. Sapphire Night, the Power Breakfast for Women, and Story Corner brought together industry leaders, designers, buyers, and storytellers, fostering meaningful conversations and shared insights. These curated engagements were widely praised for creating opportunities to connect beyond commercial transactions and celebrate the heritage and future of the gem and jewellery industry.
Commenting on the success of the event, Akram Cassim, President of the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association, the organising body of FACETS, described the 2026 edition as a significant boost for the industry. He noted that the strong participation of exhibitors and international buyers clearly reflected growing global confidence in Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery sector, and expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the exhibition’s success.
SLGJA Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Shezan Mansoor highlighted the collaborative effort behind the event, stating that the positive outcomes demonstrated the value of working closely with partners, sponsors, and industry participants. He emphasised that showcasing over 100 boothholders offering a wide variety of gemstones and jewellery enabled the exhibition to cater to a diverse audience, which was evident in the strong feedback received.
FACETS Chairman Armil Sammoon also underscored the quality of engagement witnessed throughout the exhibition. He noted that international buyers and exhibitors responded positively to the depth of interaction, professionalism, and business potential demonstrated during the event, reinforcing FACETS’ role as a premier industry platform.
Building on the momentum generated by FACETS 2026, the organisers confirmed that the next edition, FACETS 2027, will be held on January 5, 6, and 7, 2027, once again at Cinnamon Life – City of Dreams. With growing international interest and rising industry confidence, expectations are high that the upcoming edition will further strengthen Sri Lanka’s position in the global gem and jewellery landscape.
