Hatton National Bank Bolsters Board with Veteran Banker Appointments

Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) made a strategic move by appointing S. Renganathan and Nanda Fernando, former managing directors of leading Sri Lankan commercial banks, to its Board of Directors as Independent Non-Executive Directors.

This is a significant development for HNB, as industry analysts view it as an unprecedented step. Renganathan and Fernando’s extensive experience in the banking sector, totaling over 80 years combined, is expected to significantly strengthen the expertise and knowledge of HNB’s board. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to the bank’s overall excellence.

Previously, HNB’s board had only one former banker – Rasitha Gunawardana, who served as CEO/General Manager of People’s Bank. With the addition of Renganathan and Fernando, the board gains a wider range of perspectives and proven leadership qualities.

S. Renganathan: A Seasoned Banker

Renganathan brings over four decades of experience in the banking industry, having held key positions at Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC. He played a pivotal role in leading the bank’s acquisition of Credit Agricole Indosuez’s banking operations in Bangladesh. His expertise extends beyond commercial banking, as he has served on the boards of numerous companies in various sectors.

Nanda Fernando: A Specialist in Business Growth

Fernando boasts over four decades of experience in the banking sector, having spent 36 years with Sampath Bank since its inception. Following his retirement, he established Professional Business Consultants, focusing on financial planning and advisory services. Fernando’s proven track record in strategic leadership and business growth is another valuable asset for HNB.

A Board Poised for Success

The appointments of Renganathan and Fernando solidify HNB’s board with a powerful combination of experience and expertise. Their leadership and knowledge are expected to be instrumental in driving HNB’s future success.
