HNB and SLT Mobitel Partner for “Data Freedom” in Digital Banking

HNB PLC has partnered with SLT Mobitel to launch a groundbreaking initiative called “Data Freedom,” marking a significant step forward in Sri Lanka’s digital banking landscape. This first-of-its-kind service offers HNB’s digital users free access to the bank’s entire suite of digital platforms, removing a major barrier to financial inclusion.

The “Data Freedom” initiative provides several key benefits to HNB customers. They can now access the Digital Banking app, website, SOLO app, SOLO Merchant app and website, SOLO website, and the HNB Corporate Website without incurring any data charges. This eliminates concerns about data depletion or exceeding data limits, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential banking services. Additionally, a convenient reload facility within the HNB digital platforms allows users to easily top up their data balance as needed.

HNB’s commitment to leveraging technology for positive change is evident in this initiative. As stated by Assistant General Manager Chammika Weerasinghe, the bank strives to empower customers by providing convenient access to banking services and enabling them to manage their digital banking needs seamlessly. By removing the data cost barrier, HNB is fostering financial inclusion and promoting a more digitally empowered Sri Lanka.

This partnership is not only beneficial for HNB customers but also reflects the shared commitment of both companies to driving digital banking adoption in the country. SLT-Mobitel’s Head of Customer Care, Asanka Jayawardena, emphasizes the privilege of collaborating on this initiative, highlighting their dedication to taking Sri Lanka’s digital financial landscape to new heights.

Recognizing the national impact of “Data Freedom,” HNB is actively pursuing future collaborations with other internet service providers (ISPs) as stated by Senior Manager Chakshika Amarawardhana. This broader vision aims to broaden access to HNB’s digital banking facilities, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access their financial tools at any time.

The “Data Freedom” initiative marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s journey towards a more inclusive and digitally empowered future. The collaboration between HNB and SLT Mobitel sets a strong precedent for future partnerships that can revolutionize the financial landscape of the country by leveraging technology to empower citizens and bridge the digital divide.
