The Hambantota International Port (HIP) recently welcomed the luxury cruise ship ‘Serenade of the Seas’ on April 29, marking its maiden call at the port. The ship, part of Royal Caribbean International’s Radiance Class vessels, carried 1,950 passengers and 890 crew members, adding to the growing number of cruise ships visiting HIP in 2024. This event underscores HIP’s status as an emerging hub for international cruise tourism, offering access to exotic destinations for travelers worldwide.
During the ship’s visit, a special plaque presentation ceremony was held on board, attended by officials from HIPG & HIPS and representatives from the local vessel agents, Prudential Shipping. This gesture signifies the warm reception and hospitality extended by HIP to visiting cruise liners, emphasizing the port’s commitment to providing exceptional experiences for both passengers and crew members. The ‘Serenade of the Seas’ is scheduled to make its next call at the Colombo Port, continuing its journey through Sri Lanka’s maritime destinations.
